Retirement properties in Suffolk
Sandwiched between Essex and Norfolk, Suffolk is a county with some real hidden gems. It boasts some beautiful countryside and delightful small villages, as well as some larger towns such as Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.
Living in Suffolk also provides access to some of the area’s best seaside towns. Southwold is an upmarket small town with a sandy beach and quaint pier, whereas Felixstowe and Lowestoft are more traditional. Suffolk is also within easy reach of the expansive and natural beaches in Norfolk.
If you live in southern Suffolk you are a stone’s throw from Harwich which is the ferry gateway to The Netherlands and by extension, Belgium and Northern France.
When you’re retired, community is important, and Suffolk offers lots of opportunities to get involved in clubs, societies and other activities specifically for the over 60s. Visit Infolink Suffolk for a list or pop into the local council offices.
Getting around Suffolk is easy, with mainline train links from Felixstowe in the south up towards Norwich, and branch lines to some of the smaller towns and villages. Your free bus pass should help you get around a local area.
For getting out and about, there are some lovely places to visit. If you’re a member of the English Heritage you’ve got Framlingham Castle, Flatford Bridge Cottage or Palace House centre for horseracing. Or for National Trust members, there is Melford Hall, Ickworth House and Dunwich Heath and Beach.
One of the best things about living in the countryside has to be the wonderful cafes and tea houses. Some of the best afternoon tea venues in the area include the Salthouse Harbour Hotel in Ipswich, The Swan at Lavenham, Maison Talbooth near Dedham and Hintlesham Hall.
There are lots of options for retirement properties in the area. See what we have on the market below, or search in neighbouring counties here
